Hip Hop Declaration of Peace – Ninth Principle
Let me introduce you to an individual. We’ll call him Kevin. Kevin has been inspired by rap music, and moved by its power to uplift and motivate.

Kevin grew up seeing violence and crime in his neighborhood. There were challenges and obstacles, but he found solace in hip-hop. Kevin was drawn to the raw emotion and storytelling. The music spoke to him in a way that nothing else could.
Kevin began exploring his passion for rap music, and realized that it was more than just entertainment. It was a tool that could be used to inspire and empower others. Kevin started writing lyrics in his notebook, drawing from his own experiences and struggles. It took a while, but he wound up sharing his raps.
Through his music, Kevin connected with others who faced similar challenges. He used his platform to spread positive messages and advocate for change. Kevin is now a role model for inner city youth.

Make Rap Music Day a special day for you and your community. This can take different forms. Organize or attend local events that showcase talent. Mentor young artists. Volunteer in underserved neighborhoods.
If you’re a rap fan, utilize your ability to share songs that impact your life positively. Shoutout the emcees that have helped you through a difficult time in your life. Spread love.
It’s especially important for emcees to unify for Rap Music Day to correct stigmas created by the media.

Rap music is looked at by many as a genre for entertainment. Only a few recognize it as a tool for empowerment. Kevin represents a great number of people who have been inspired by its power.
Let’s take a moment to acknowledge the ways rap music has impacted our society. Progress comes from critical observation of the good and the not-so-good.
Rap Music Day is when we appreciate those who continue to use their voices to uplift our communities.
This is one of four Hip Hop holidays we can celebrate every year.
